“We fight a double-edged sword with the world. As we get the freedom to be ourselves and express the true nature of our existence, we are targeted by the world that wants to harm the freedom of individual we choose to express. Why are we being put into a box, that is bound by the guides of this ‘society’ we choose to please. Will we be punished for living within the freedom we deserve? Will we end up, always forcing ourselves into this farce reality of being?”
This painting was inspired by the Nirbhaya Case that happened in 2012. After either trying years of legal fights, the now-deceased Nirbhaya gets the justice she deserves. A case that was sensationalised not only in media but saw a lot of biased views on the freedom of a woman in society and how it’s their fault for living a ‘modern’ life. A case that caused the Indian public to start conversations about the rape culture in India and how despite having an open word about it in the media, the public chooses to see it in light of their own biases.
